What is Bacitracin?
Bacitracin is an organic compound with the chemical formula C66H103N17O16S. It is mainly used as an antibacterial agent and has a clinical antibacterial spectrum similar to penicillin. It has bactericidal effects on Gram positive bacteria and negative cocci, pneumococci, Staphylococcus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, meningococcus, and spirochetes. |
Function of Bacitracin
Bacitracin is mainly added as an animal growth promoter in feed. Due to the presence of zinc,the activity of the product is enhanced, so zinc and manganese salts of the product are often used as feed additives. Growth promoters are non nutritional additives that can stimulate the growth of livestock and poultry, improve weight gain rate and feed utilization efficiency, and enhance their health. This product has strong antibacterial effects on most Gram positive bacteria, similar to penicillin, and is also effective against penicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. As a drug, it is mainly used to treat various infections caused by drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, such as sepsis, pneumonia, endocarditis, etc.
