What is Benzoic acid? Benzoic acid is prepared by oxidizing toluene with air in the presence of catalysts such as cobalt and manganese. Or prepare by hydrolysis decarboxylation of phthalic anhydride. Benzoic acid and its sodium salt can be used as bacteriostatic agent for latex, toothpaste, jam or other foods, and can also be used as mordant for dyeing and printing..
