What is Raltegravir? atgevir is a relatively new antiretroviral drug, which mainly acts on human immunodeficiency virus integrase, one of the three enzymes required for replication of the virus. Ratgevir blocks the binding site of human immunodeficiency virus integrase, thereby blocking the chain transfer activity and the integration of the previrus into the host cell chromosome

 

Function of Raltegravir 

Raltegravir binds to and inhibits integrase, an HIV enzyme that inserts viral genetic material into the genetic material of the infected human cell. Inhibition of integrase prevents insertion of HIV DNA into the human DNA genome, thus blocking HIV replication. It received approval by the U.S.
It can be combined with other antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) -1 infection. It slows down HIV-1 infection by inhibiting the HIV integrase required for viral replication.
